Today I chatted with a vet who went to the same University as I did, a province away, and he knew my then Vet student roommate and dear friend. It's a small world!

Humans punish themselves endlessly

-Don Miguel Ruiz-
While walking the dog this morning, I met a neighbour. I've lived here a few years now, but have kept to myself and isolated. However, this morning she approached me on the pretence of meeting my puppy, and we started chatting. I had forgotten the value of speaking with the neighbours.
Yesterday I spent hours hanging out with a friend who truly gets it. She was my supervisor at work last summer, and we got along really well so it evolved into a friendship. I live very much in the closet right now, but we were talking a few months ago and she casually mentioned that her Mom and several aunts are bipolar. That led to a "funny you should say that..." moment by text message, which was simultaneously the most awkward thing ever and also totally natural. The genetic bomb seems to have missed her, but she truly gets it and knows how to get me laughing when I'm suicidal. She has definitely earned a spot on my "people I call when my brain breaks" list, and she has fervently assured me that she's honoured to be there. I feel very lucky!
