Night owl .. insomnia .. sleeping disorders ..

Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome .. D.S.P.S is something I've been googling about recently .. Due to the sleeping problems I had during the last ten years of my life ..

I had struggles with insomnia triggered by my anxiety problems .. but recently it seemed to be something different ..

I'm also known to be a night owl .. & I was more successful than others in night time jobs that require full concentration like driving ..

I have apnea too .. which is a breathing difficulty during sleeping that does not only cause loud noisy snoring .. but impede ability to wake up in a good mood .. & ability to function well while awake ..

I can't be so sure about my case .. I'm not a specialist .. and unfortunately many psychiatrists lack the sufficient knowledge in these sleeping disorders .. that's my opinion at least ..

DSPS ( or DSPD ) is one of five or six kinds of Circadian Rhythm Sleeping Disorders ( CRSD ) .. sleeping disorders related to human body clocks .. & DSPD might not be the exact diagnosis for my problem .. but definitely it's very close to it ..

These sleeping disorders makes life even more & more difficult for a person with bipolar disorder & to anyone who's struggling with depression , anxiety & anger management problems ..

Social integration becomes a real problem .. and even if you're unemployed .. there are many important & basic daily life activities that you can't simply do it after 6:00 pm .. which means having less hours to accomplish your tasks than other ( normal people ) ..

And please don't get me wrong .. I'm not only talking about this to share my experience & knowledge .. I'm trying to think loudly .. sleeping disorders are not important for every member in this group.. but I don't think I'm the only living creature who's experiencing them ..

I have more details regarding my sleeping problems to talk about .. but I want to be sure that I'm describing them the right way before publishing ..

Hi Jafar. I wonder if there's a sleep disorder clinic in reasonable proximity to you. It would probably mean a referral and being on a waiting list, but it might be worthwhile checking it out. Just a thought.

Hi Jafar. Yes perhaps it is time to go back to the sleep disorder clinic. Do you use the machine they gave you? Does it help at all?

I understand your frustration with the health care system all to well. If we don't advocate for ourselves it is so easy to get lost in the health care system. How do people who are not able to advocate for themselves supposed to get the help they need? Okay I better quit there before I go on a rant about it!

No apology necessary. I definitely find a regular bedtime and wake up schedule helpful for sleeping. Still, there's a lot of factors that can interfere with my sleep too.

Hello Jafar. I'm a night owl too. I also have both kinds of sleep apenea. I am also a napper. It interferes with life, but it's the only way that I can get through it. I wasn't so bad when I was younger, but now with the added illlnesses that I carry I have to nap.

The problem being is that unless I severely limit my napping then I cannot sleep at night, so I try to limit myself to strict limits. I also find it easier to get up and do something useful than to lay in bed awake. By useful I mean clean the house , do the dishes, even read a good book, I used to get up and play solitaire on the computer but that did nothing to help make me sleepy.

Nor can I seem to keep a regular bed time. I do try and keep a rough calculation of how many hrs sleep I get a week, between naps and regular sleep and as long as I average between 50 and 54 hrs, I seem to do fine. Too much sleep makes me as sleepy as too little.

I know that sleep problems can be hard to find a solution too. My wife is a very light sleeper and sjhe tried pills, soothing wild life sounds, birds sounds on tape and nothing worked. We accidentally found out that a fan running made just enough noise to help keep her asleep.

She also has to , once in a while, resort to some sort of sleeping pill. She never uses it more than 3 days in a row and that often allows her to A) catch up on her sleep and B) get her sleep patterns back . I wish you luck in finding a solution as sleep problems can be tough. Take Care. paul m p.s. once ina while when my anxieties get too high I take low dose seroquel, the lowest dose that you can get is 25 mg and I cut that in half.

When you don't get enough sleep, it actually causes more health problems. I had a sleeping disorder, and I had to deal with heart and stomach problems, and the stress made it worse.

To be honest, I know my cause; the job is to blame for all this, that's why a year ago I gave up working as a nurse. Besides, I couldn't normally sleep because I still had back and hip pain. My doctor advised me to look for the best pillows for hip pain, which will improve my sleep problem. But otherwise, I took a lot of pills to adjust my sleep, I quit my job, and I didn't work for a year.

Hey, I think sleeping disorders are now a common problem. I was struggling with sleep apnea for two years. It was tough for me to sleep at that time. Lack of sleep badly affected my health, and I visited a sleep specialist. He recommended a CPAP while sleeping. CPAP was amazing for me in dealing with my sleep apnea. Now I can sleep without any trouble. In my opinion, it is the best remedy for sleep disorders, especially for sleep apnea.

Hi folks. Sleep problems are quite prevalent and sorry you are having to deal with this. Sleep is so very important and can sleep or lack of, can have a significant influence on how our day will be. Hence, it is “one of the three pillars of mental health”.

Although sleep problems can be due to different reasons, here are some general tips: https://mdsc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2...leep-Final.pdf

If you have followed most of the tips online and are still experiencing sleep problems, please talk to your doctor. There are some great medications that can help with sleep. Of course, that is only if your doctor feels it is appropriate to do so.
