I have had my Blue Elephant for at least seven years. He has always sat proudly on the coffee table in the living room, that is until this past weekend. We got a puppy a week ago and two days ago he found my little Elephant and before I noticed that he had it he had chewed off the end of the trunk. I just ordered a new Elephant. I will obviously have to put it elsewhere but I will definitely put it where I can see it all the time. I find it reminds me of the video and that my mental illness is not a character flaw or a weakness nor are persons with mental illness more prone to violence or more dangerous than other people. These are very common beliefs, even my own husband believes that we are more dangerous than the general population! When someone picks up the Elephant and goes “aww, cute!” then reads the imprint I explain the concept of The Elephant In the Room Campaign. I receive mixed reactions. Some want to know more, some want to change the subject. Everyone needs an Elephant.
