    Dumb questions psychologists ask...

I had some memory/ attention testing done and then met with the psychologist. The tests were done because I have problems with memory and attention. The guy hadn't even read the test results before we met. He was flipping through pages reading material quickly and not completely. I've been telling 'helpers' along the way about how much of a problem this is for me and that it's getting worse. The test results did in fact show that it is worse than before. ( I had testing done in 1992).

He blamed my age, my meds, me and proceeded to ask me if all my meds are really necessary. I tried to tell him that I've had problems before I was on any meds, but that I thought the meds probably made it worse. He just wasn't listening. He then proceeded to ask me what I thought would happen if I wasn't on my meds. Stupid ass! I wanted to get off my chair, leap across the room and smack him for being so stupid and insulting. Do I really want to be on my psych meds? My RA meds? I mean what the **** about bipolar does he not get? What part of my other health conditions does he not get?

    Boy am I steamed!

Hello AJ. You had every right to be steamed. I would have been so mad that I might have said some nasty things and that usually doesn't help. Take Care. paul m

I would like to find pdocs and tdocs and whatsupdocs that actually live with mental illnesses. then they might actually know what they are talking about and it wouldn't just be speculation

No need to apologize Lizzy. That's exactly what I thought.

When you find one Determined, let me know.

AJ, he sounds like a real ass. Maybe you should have smacked him and then told him this is what happens when you're off your meds!

Does this guy realize he's a psychologist and not a psychiatrist or MD? Sheesh!

Apparently not. I've come down from my angry rant about the encounter. I did phone my Pdoc to tell her what I thought of him. She wasn't impressed with him.

Good for you, bringing it to the attention of your pdoc. Sounds like she's in your corner.

Yes she's very supportive Uni. I'm fortunate to have her as my Pdoc.
