Suggestions for Non SSRI Depression Medication

Me and my doctor have tried numerous SSRI's over the years and they all make me feel worse.

I did suggest amitriptyline which I take every night but I believe they are only making sleep better.

I still wake up in a super depression and find it difficult to start the day.

    Things get worse every year.

Once I am up and going, things are not so bad.

Also suffer from severe OCD but learned to live with it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello Bastille Day. I have bipolar and antidepressants make me manic, so I'm no expert on them. However I often use drugs.com to find out info about medications. In one section they list most medications to treat any particular illness. Under depression they list 50+ generic meds and 70+ patent drugs used for treatment of depression. In that section they also have a place where people can review how the medication worked for them. Just click on the link http://www.drugs.com/condition/depression-generic.html . That link leads to the generic drug list but you can also get to the patent drug list and by following the links you can see how each medication was rated. Some medications are rated 300+ times, some not at all.

I clicked on Lithium because it's one of the meds that I take. The first review that I read said that Lithium had worked well for their depression(which I already new happens occasionally) , but I was really surprised when the person also said that it worked well for their OCD. I'm not saying that lithium works as one person's opinion isn't enough to form a factual basis, but you may find some other treatment amongst the variety of medications that they list.

Overall I find http://www.drugs.com/ a useful tool as they have an drug interaction tool, drug reviews(made by consumers) and a lot of other tools. Take Care. paul m
