The Mood Disorders Society of Canada is proud to announce Lesley Skelly as the 2019 recipient of the Marg Starzynski Mental Health Leadership Award.
This award is presented to an individual whose dedicated leadership in community mental health awareness and through personal contributions to raising awareness of mental illness has had a positive impact on the mental health community.
Lesley sits on the Patient and Family Advisory Council and is a Family Visitor at Sunnybrook Hospital. She launched a Parent Support Group and is trained as a facilitator for bereavement support groups. Lesley is also a speaker with the Schizophrenia Ontario Society.
She and her husband went public with their son Kit’s story in the newspaper, television and radio to raise awareness on mental health and mental illness. She started the “Kit Skelly Foundation” and describes herself as a Mom who is fighting to break the mental health stigma.
