For immediate release. Belleville, ON — May 25, 2024. Mood Disorders Society of Canada is proud to announce a spectacular demonstration of unity and support for mental health through its national Defeat Depression campaign. In an awe-inspiring display of solidarity, some of Canada’s most iconic landmarks will light up in the campaign colors, symbolizing the collective effort of Canadians in battling mental illness and reminding us all that nobody is alone in this fight.

On May 28th, at precisely 10:15 PM for 15 minutes, with support from the Niagara Falls Illumination Board, the majestic Niagara Falls will light in a mesmerizing blend of blue and gold, mirroring the hope and support that the Defeat Depression campaign aims to spread nationwide. This natural wonder, known for its breathtaking beauty, will serve as a symbol of hope and a powerful reminder of the strength found in community and solidarity.

Similarly, the Calgary Tower will join in this nationwide show of support on May 25th, illuminating the skies of Calgary in Light Blue, Dark Blue and Yellow Gold. Following suit, the iconic CN Tower in Toronto will also glow a vibrant blue on the same day, for the first 30 minutes of every hour after sunset. Every light serves as a reminder that in our shared humanity, we find the strength to support, understand, and uplift each other.

The Defeat Depression campaign is led by the Mood Disorders Society of Canada, in collaboration with community mental health programs coast-to-coast, and is focused on bolstering fundraising efforts to enhance programs, education, and support surrounding mental illness. This initiative also aims to foster a sense of community and solidarity in support of individuals dealing with depression and other mood disorders. By illuminating iconic landmarks, our goal is to shine a light on the importance of mental health, advocating for a future where conversations around mental illness are open, comprehended, and given the priority they deserve.

We invite all Canadians to join us! Together, we stand strong in the face of depression and all mental illnesses, reminding each other and the world that no one is alone and that together, we can make change happen.
