Mood Disorders Society of Canada (MDSC) is pleased to announce a new partnership with The Royal Canadian Legion – Dominion Command, for the delivery of its ‘Advancing Veteran Communities’ program.
This initiative builds on existing MDSC Veteran and Veteran Family Member programming and will offer two educational opportunities. They will provide Veterans and Family Members support for their wellness, including mental health information, social engagement, and an increased quality of life. “We are pleased to have The Royal Canadian Legion as a partner, providing sponsorship for the supports and services that the Advancing Veteran Communities program will deliver”, states Dave Gallson, National Executive Director, MDSC.
The Advancing Veteran Communities program will offer the following options over the next year:
- Four Peer Support workshops (Level 1, Foundational) for Veterans and Family Members facilitated by MDSC’s Peer and Trauma Support Services (PATSS) team, delivered remotely through zoom.
- Three nation-wide mental health webinars (including knowledge and educational tools) to assist Veterans and Family Members with mental health literacy, and coping mechanisms.
MDSC Veteran and Family Member programs continue to be offered at no cost to participants.
“We are pleased to provide the Mood Disorders Society of Canada $93,000 to help support initiatives that will provide the tools Veterans and their families need to help work their way through difficult times,” says Carolyn Hughes, Director of Veterans Services at The Royal Canadian Legion. “These sorts of programs are so important in supporting a Veteran’s well-being, while at the same time assisting members of their family who are often directly affected by the challenges faced by their loved one.”
