FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE. Belleville, ON – April 14, 2026

By the time Canadians reach 40 years of age, 1 in 2 have – or have had – a mental illness. In light of these serious statistics, we are proud to announce that #SICKNOTWEAK, a nationally recognized mental health awareness platform founded by Michael Landsberg is joining Mood Disorders Society of Canada (MDSC).

As one of Canada’s most influential and outspoken advocates for mental health, Michael has been instrumental in challenging stigma and changing the narrative around mental illness. Through his leadership, #SICKNOTWEAK has become a powerful voice across the country, encouraging openness, understanding, and action in the fight against mental illness stigma.

The platform has played an important role in shifting public perception by promoting the message that mental illness is not a sign of weakness, and having the courage to seek help is a strength. Through storytelling, education, advocacy, and community engagement, this platform has helped encourage conversations around mental illness and mental health in support of individuals impacted.

“By bringing #SICKNOTWEAK under the MDSC umbrella, we are building on a strong and impactful foundation” states Dave Gallson, National Executive Director, MDSC. “The platform has established a strong presence in the mental health space, and we are committed to expanding that work while growing our reach and impact across Canada.”

As part of this transition, MDSC will focus on further developing and scaling the #SICKNOTWEAK platform, including expanding its digital presence and increasing access to awareness-driven content and initiatives. The organization is actively looking to grow the platform and deepen its engagement with individuals, communities, and partners nationwide.

“A few others and I started #SICKNOTWEAK in 2016 because we were tired of people calling mental illness a weakness. That belief keeps people quiet—and silence is mental illness and suicide’s greatest ally. The name says it all: I am sick, not weak. That’s why we partnered with the Mood Disorders Society of Canada. They’ve been saying it—and proving it—for years” states Michael Landsberg.

MDSC remains committed to advancing mental health awareness, reducing stigma, and supporting initiatives that foster understanding, compassion, and connection across communities.
