The Mood Disorders Society of Canada is proud to announce The Lived Experience and Recovery Network – LERN’ as the 2021 recipient of the Jordan James Pickell Mental Health Achievement Recognition Award.

This award is presented to an organization that has made outstanding contributions to mental health education and anti-stigma activities that have had a positive impact on the mental health community.  Specifically, by actively engaging students and staff in understanding and accepting mental illness and the importance of mental health.  Any Canadian organization is eligible for this award.

LERN is a networking body linking, supporting and educating consumers and organizations on mental health in the northeast region. LERN champions mental health and addiction awareness and have doubled their efforts due to the current pandemic.  This dedicated organization is determined to make a difference.  LERN has also taken a leadership role in guiding and mentoring on a national scale, other mental health organizations and their initiatives.

“The Lived Experience and Recovery Network – LERN’ is an incredibly important program that connects multiple organizations together through support groups in North Eastern Ontario.  Their leadership in mentoring other mental health initiatives nationally is an incredible win-win for everyone.”  says Dave Gallson, National Executive Director of Mood Disorders Society of Canada.

About the Mood Disorders Society of Canada:

The Mood Disorders Society of Canada was launched in 2001 to provide people with mood disorders, their families and caregivers a strong, cohesive voice at the national level on issues relating to mental health and mental illness. With particular regard to depression, bipolar disorder and other associated mood disorders, the MDSC aims to improve access to treatment, inform research, shape program development and government policy to improve the quality of life for people affected by mood disorders.
