MDSC Mental Health Awards Nominations 2025

Each year the Mood Disorders Society of Canada (MDSC) presents national awards – in recognition of outstanding work achieved in mental health. Nominations will be open to submissions for individuals or an organizations who fit the nomination criteria.
Nominations for awards will open Monday, August 11, 2025 and submissions will be accepted up to midnight eastern on Monday, October 20, 2025. The award winners will be announced in January 2026.


  • The MDSC Mental Health Leadership Award

    This award is presented to an individual whose dedicated leadership in community mental health awareness and through personal contributions to raising awareness of mental illness has had a positive impact on the mental health community. Any Canadian is eligible for this award.

  • The Jordan James Pickell Mental Health Achievement Recognition Award

    This award is presented to an organization who has made outstanding contributions to mental health education and anti-stigma activities and that have had a positive impact on the mental health community. Specifically, by actively engaging students and staff in understanding and accepting mental illness and the importance of mental health. Any Canadian organization is eligible for this award.

  • The Dr. Barbara Everett Award for Young Researchers with Lived Experience

    The Dr. Barbara Everett Award for Young Researchers with Lived Experience recognizes Young Researchers with Lived Experience who have demonstrated significant contributions in the field of mental health, emphasizing knowledge dissemination and innovative approaches.

  • Criteria

    This award is presented to an individual whose dedicated leadership in community mental health awareness and through personal contributions to raising awareness of mental illness has had a positive impact on the mental health community. Any Canadian individual is eligible for this award.

    • The individual’s dedicated leadership on mental health in the community bringing awareness
    • Personal contributions to raising awareness of mental health and illness in the community
    • The impact on the mental health community – longevity in the community
    • Uniqueness of the individual’s contribution
  • Criteria

    This award is presented to an organization who has made outstanding contributions to mental health education and anti-stigma activities and that have had a positive impact on the mental health community. Specifically, by actively engaging students and staff in understanding and accepting mental illness and the importance of mental health. Any Canadian organization is eligible for this award.

    • The organizations contribution to mental health education
    • The organizations anti-stigma activities
    • The impact on the mental health community – longevity in the community
    • The uniqueness of student and staff active engagement
  • Criteria

    Nominees should have a track record of at least two (2) years in the field, showcasing sustained and impactful contributions. Nominations should encompass a brief introduction and a summary (150 words or less) delineating the nominee’s contributions to enhancing mental health and knowledge dissemination in Canada. Furthermore, the nomination should incorporate the following details:

    • A succinct biography (as an attachment)
    • A delineation of how the nominee's work significantly differs and stands out in the field
    • The impact on the mental health community – longevity in the community
    • A comprehensive current curriculum vitae of the nominee and contact information including full name, mailing address, phone number(s), and email address (as an attachment)
