September 25, 2024– For Immediate Release. After months of planning and hard work, and with the tremendous support of the Sudbury community, Northern Initiative for Social Action (NISA) had a cheque presentation on Wednesday, September 25th, for the proceeds of the 11th Annual Defeat Depression walk. Martin Boucher, NISA Executive Director, received the cheque from Ken Porter, National Program Director for Mood Disorders Society of Canada (MDSC), and Don Langlois, Manager, Workplace Health and Disability Management for Vale Base Metals.
“We are incredibly proud to collaborate with NISA and the Sudbury Defeat Depression organizing team. Thanks to their hard work and the amazing support from participants and sponsors like Vale Canada, this year’s event in Sudbury was truly inspiring! It clearly demonstrated how passionate the people of Sudbury are about mental health,” said Ken Porter, National Program Director for Mood Disorders Society of Canada.
“At Vale Base Metals, we believe in the importance of supporting mental health initiatives in our community,” said Donald Langlois, Manager, Workplace Health and Disability Management for Vale Base Metals. “Partnering with Mood Disorders Canada for the Walk to Defeat Depression allows us to contribute to a cause that resonates deeply with our values and with NISA’s efforts, we can make a meaningful impact on the lives of those affected by mental health challenges right here in Greater Sudbury.”
“I think most people in this community acknowledge that we are facing some tough times. There are a number of challenges in the community, and the mental health of Sudburians is certainly one of them. The overwhelming generosity of individuals and businesses this year will help NISA improve the lives of those who rely on our services. We are very grateful to work in such a supportive community and thank everyone who participated this year.” Martin Boucher, Executive Director of Northern Initiative for Social Action (NISA).
