Summary

Mood Disorders Society of Canada is seeking an experienced Outreach Coordinator to work as part of a small team establishing a new Disability Benefit Navigation program. The goal of this initiative is to increase the financial security of Canadians with disabilities by providing accessible, tailored support via Community Service Partners and a new Disability Benefit Navigation Hub. This program is currently funded for 2 years with the possibility of extension.

The National Outreach/Navigator Coordinator builds a comprehensive list of resources for Disability Benefits and provides support for those using the project website. This role is essential to ensuring that individuals have access to the information and assistance they need throughout the benefits application process, which involves direct client contact and support.

This position is REMOTE, however, (national) travel may be required to attend meetings, wellness conferences or tradeshows as needed.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the National Project Manager, the Outreach and Navigation Coordinator will act as a Team Lead for the Benefits Navigation Team, and will:

  • Assist with developing a clear and structured model of providing automated and one-on-one support to individuals navigating the disability benefit application process.
  • Assist in the development of accessible and inclusive content that addresses the needs of individuals with various disability types and incorporates GBA+ considerations.
  • Provide individualized, accessible, one-on-one support to individuals through the application process, including support for completing applications, gathering necessary documentation, and preparing for appeals.
  • Recruit and train a team of disability benefits navigator volunteers with lived experience, or who have a deep understanding of disability issues, to provide one-on-one support to clients accessing services.
  • Coordinate workflow for the Navigation Team, including (2) Benefit Navigators, and Navigation volunteers

Qualifications:

The incumbent will be comfortable recommending and establishing work processes and policies that benefit MDSC clients and the overall project, but will also be adaptable to work within a collaborative and dynamic environment.

Post-secondary education in social sciences, marketing and/or business field, or equivalent experience;

  • Specific experience in client services and/or outreach
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team of volunteers
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to speak, read/write and understand French are an asset;
  • High level of comfort conducting outreach to external organizations;
  • Familiar with various provincial and federal disability benefits
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office 365 Suite;
  • Ability to work comfortably in both a grassroots movement and in a bureaucratic setting;
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain productive networks;
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently;
  • Experience working in a virtual environment;
  • Ability to work in a team environment and to work well independently; and
  • Direct experience within the mental health area is considered an asset.

Remuneration: $60,000 annually

This position is fully funded until March 31, 2027 with the possibility of extension beyond this date.
