Summary

Mood Disorders Society of Canada is seeking 2 experienced National Benefit Navigators to work as part of a small team establishing a new Disability Benefit Navigation program. The goal of this initiative is to increase the financial security of Canadians with disabilities by providing accessible, tailored support via Community Service Partners and a new Disability Benefit Navigation Hub.

The National Benefits Navigator will provide individualized, accessible, one-on-one support to individuals through the application process, including support for completing applications, gathering necessary documentation, and preparing for appeals. Monitor and track the success of these interventions and collect feedback to refine the model and process. This position is REMOTE, however, (national) travel may be required to attend meetings, wellness conferences or trade shows as needed.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the National Project Manager, the National Benefit Navigator will act as a member of the Team in the development of a National Disability Benefits navigation project and will:

  • Provide individualized, accessible, one-on-one support to individuals through the application process, including support for completing applications, gathering necessary documentation, and preparing for appeals.
  • Monitor and track the success of these interventions and collect feedback to refine the model and process.
  • Ensure the support is accessible through various channels (e.g., phone, online, in-person where appropriate).
  • Actively engage with community organizations to ensure that marginalized communities are supported in accessing the program.

Qualifications:

The incumbent will be comfortable following and adapting work processes that benefit MDSC clients and the overall project and will also be adaptable to work within a collaborative and dynamic environment.

  • Post-secondary education in social services or business field, or equivalent experience;
  • Specific experience in client services and/or outreach
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to speak, read/write and understand French are an asset;
  • High level of comfort conducting outreach to external organizations;
  • Have a deep understanding of disability issues
  • Familiar with various provincial and federal disability benefits
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office 365 Suite;
  • Ability to work comfortably in both a grassroots movement and in a bureaucratic setting;
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain productive networks;
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently;
  • Experience working in a virtual environment;
  • Ability to work in a team environment and to work well independently; and
  • Direct experience within the mental health area is considered an asset.

Remuneration: $48,750 annually

This position is fully funded until March 31, 2027 with the possibility of extension beyond this date.
