National Volunteer Coordinator

The Mood Disorders Society of Canada (MDSC) is seeking a motivated, flexible, reliable individual for the volunteer role of National Volunteer Coordinator to assist with managing a growing group of committed volunteers. Playing a key role at MDSC, the National Volunteer Coordinator will support the National Program Managers by helping to seamlessly integrate roles and responsibilities among all volunteers at the organization. This is an unpaid volunteer position reporting to the National Program Manager. 

 

Position Details   

  • Proactively recruit and train new volunteers as needed and as directed by MDSC Program Managers. 
  • Assess strengths, unique skill sets, and interests of individuals keen to volunteer and match them to specific tasks based on these assessments. 
  • Using technology to bridge distances, regularly meet with volunteers to discuss progress on assigned activities and ways to address barriers and/or challenges.  
  • Track volunteer workloads to ensure a proper team task balance. 
  • Provide guidance and assistance to volunteers. 
  • Monitor the volunteers’ morale. 
  • Report monthly on the Volunteer Program 
  • Implement approved strategies to foster a healthy and productive work culture.  

 The estimated time commitment for this position is 7.5 hours per week. We ask for a minimum commitment of one year for this position.  

 

Qualifications   

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable presenting to groups.   
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.  
  • Demonstrated skills and experience working with volunteers, preferably in a community based setting.  
  • Experience working with CRM databases such as Salesforce would be an asset. 
  • Proven skills in coordinating tasks and managing workloads relative to dynamic team priorities.  
  • Ability to work independently, reliably, punctually and collaboratively from a virtual workspace.   
  • Experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).   
  • Demonstrated understanding of mental illness, the mental health field, and/or lived experience.   
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality, bringing concerns or questions to the attention of Program Managers when needed.
