April 9, 2024 – Belleville, Ontario – Mood Disorders Society of Canada (MDSC) is pleased to read the government’s announcement today for a Canadian Youth Mental Health Fund. This milestone investment of $500 million into the mental well-being of younger Canadians represents a significant and necessary step in improving mental health care and access across Canada.

The recent Pan-Canadian School Wellness Opinion Survey conducted by MDSC’s National Youth Advisory Council has highlighted a clear demand among students for enhanced access to mental health and well-being resources, as well as greater diversity in their delivery and topics. We are optimistic about the positive changes that the National Youth Mental Health Fund could bring to meet these needs.

We applaud the government’s efforts to strengthen youth mental health services by partnering with community health organizations such as those within the Canadian Community Mental Health Network. These organizations are vital, offering deep insights into local needs and ensuring support is both tailored and accessible, thereby effectively bridging gaps in mental health care.

As we move forward, we eagerly anticipate the positive outcomes that these measures will bring — not just for our youth, but for the health of all Canadians. Together, we can build a healthier future for every generation in Canada.
