Volunteer- Social Media Engager
The Mood Disorders Society of Canada (MDSC) is seeking creative, flexible, reliable individuals for the volunteer role of Social Media Engagers to assist with the social media marketing needs of the Defeat Depression (DD) campaign. This is an unpaid volunteer position reporting to Social Media Coordinators.
This position will support organizational goals to establish a strong brand and social media presence for DD and its related events and activities. The purpose of the Social Media Engager role is to follow the outlined marketing plan to achieve measurable results, drawing attention to DD and MDSC via various forms of outreach. The Social Media Engager will help promote the campaign and work with the DD team to support awareness of mental illness, mental health, and fundraising events.
Objectives of the Social Media Plan
- Engage communities year-round with the Defeat Depression campaign.
- Increase our social media followers and further engage local communities.
- Show sponsors and supporters that we are increasing our reach and continually expanding.
- Increase awareness of mental health and encourage discussions in communities across Canada.
Position Details
- Manage and maintain up to five individual campaign event Facebook pages.
- Curate and disseminate web content for individual event pages under the Defeat Depression Campaign, with the goal of establishing three postings a week/page.
- Post relevant content associated to assigned campaign locations to increase audience engagement.
- Monitor assigned Facebook pages for relevant feedback, questions, comments and respond to inquiries within 48 hours of their posting.
- Report directly to the Social Media Coordinator.
- Work from a ‘virtual’ office.
The estimated time commitment for this position is 1-2 hours per week. We ask for a minimum commitment of one year for this position.
Qualifications
- Experience with Facebook, familiarity with social media marketing terms and strategy.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proactive with reliable problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively from a virtual workspace.
- Demonstrated understanding of mental illness and the mental health field, and/or lived experience with depression.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality, bringing concerns or questions to the attention of supervisors when needed.
