Mood Disorders Society of Canada was honoured to have the Honourable Kent Hehr, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National
Defence in Toronto September 26, 2016 to officially launch the Transitions to Communities employment project on behalf the Honourable MaryAnn Mihychuk, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour. The event was held at the Royal Canadian Military Institute. This exciting new program will provide vulnerable veterans with the personal and professional skills to enable them to transition into the new normal of living through employment and renewed community engagement.
Clay Williams’ EPIC run to Defeat Depression!
Clay Williams – has just finished his personal challenge running 750 KM in support of Defeat Depression – Canal Pursuit — congratulations!
Taking breaks while running along the Trent and Rideau Canal systems, Clay had an incredibly positive influence on the lives of many Canadians at speaking engagements in schools, organizations and with individuals. Relating his account of the impact depression has had on his family touched the lives of those who are themselves affected by the illness, as well as their families.
DEFEAT DEPRESSION CAMPAIGN IMPROVES COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH
The Defeat Depression campaign continues to build on its five years of success assisting community mental health organizations raise much-needed funds to support their services and programs. The campaign has again seen expansion with new locations and events across Canada. MDSC is proud to welcome new event locations in Antigonish, Woodstock/Oxford , Orillia, Charlottetown, Barrie, Perth/Smith Falls and Montreal. Our sincere thanks to our event organizers, our many volunteers, and our national sponsors. Congratulations to our participants who take part in the Defeat Depression events to raise funds, create awareness and fight stigma.
CANADIAN MILITARY AND VETERAN FAMILY LEADERSHIP CIRCLE
MDSC is proud to be a member of the Canadian Military and Veteran Families Leadership Circle, which is a component of the Military and Veteran Families in Canada Initiative, a partnership between the Vanier Institute of the Family and the Canadian Armed Forces to build awareness, capacity, competency and community regarding military and Veteran families in Canada.

The MDSC 24-member national Peer Support Team offers Trauma Support, Peer Selection, Training and Development within the workplace across Canada. The team can assist your organization to effectively assess and address the 13 psychosocial factors to develop comprehensive strategies for ensuring a psychologically safe workplace regardless of how large or small, or whether in the public or private sector.

HER EXCELLENCY SHARON JOHNSTON VISITS CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD OF EASTERN ONTARIO
Her Excellency Sharon Johnston visited St. Michael Catholic High School in Kemptville, on Monday, April 25, where she learned about mental health initiatives currently being implemented at the school and took part in their Defeat Depression Activities.

PROJECT TRAUMA SUPPORT

Project Trauma Support, a new program that addresses PTSD for military and first responders in Canada. Led by Dr. Manuela Joannou and her dedicated
team, this program is having a significantly positive impact on the men and women who have enrolled; and their families.
ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM ANTI-STIGMA CAMPAIGN CONTINUES TO BATTLE STIGMA
The international Elephant in the Room anti-stigma program is a high impact, low cost, customizable easy to implement program that hundreds of employers, schools, agencies, government ministries, police forces, first responders, and community organizations have implemented to eliminate stigma and encourage wellness. Our school partners have advised us that this aligns with their anti-bullying policies and our corporate partners have advised that it opens the door for improved health outcomes.
