Bio – Sherry Mayer

National Outreach/Navigation Coordinator with Mood Disorders Society of Canada

Sherry is a proud Métis person with Algonquin- Mohawk heritage, from the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg territory in Maniwaki- the largest Algonquin Nation in Canada.

Her career focus is on building sustainable, economic outcomes for communities across Ontario, with a special focus on supporting Indigenous prosperity (reconciliation) along with population attraction and communal growth initiatives, particularly within Northern Ontario.

With a Social Work background, her work has resulted in improvements of the socio-economic conditions for northern communities in urban and rural Northern Ontario. This has been reflected from her work within the Employment & Immigration, Policy, Economic Development, and Indigenous Tourism sectors.

Sherry has a keen ability to enhance organizational systems and align key relationships, helping to advance the strategic vision of an organization. Her advocacy skills, hard work ethic and community values make her an asset to the helping profession. She helps with the implementation of best practices in nonprofit organizations, with a special focus on advocacy for equality, for repressed social structures.

In her personal life, Sherry maintains post studies in Buddhism and advocates for mind-body therapies that are inclusive of mindful, therapeutic yoga modalities within Eastern and Indigenous traditions. She owns and operates a yoga business based in Northern Ontario.
