Each year the Mood Disorders Society of Canada (MDSC) presents national awards –in recognition of outstanding work achieved in mental health. Nominations will be open to submissions for individuals or an organizations who fit the nomination criteria.

Nominations for awards will open Monday, August 11, 2025 and submissions will be accepted up to midnight eastern on Monday, October 20, 2025. The award winners will be announced in January 2026.

Nominations will be accepted for the following three awards:

1. The MDSC Mental Health Leadership Award

This award is presented to an individual whose dedicated leadership in community mental health awareness and through personal contributions to raising awareness of mental illness has had a positive impact on the mental health community. Any Canadian individual is eligible for this award.

2. The Jordan James Pickell Mental Health Achievement Recognition Award

This award is presented to an organization who has made outstanding contributions to mental health education and anti-stigma activities and that have had a positive impact on the mental health community.  Specifically, by actively engaging students and staff in understanding and accepting mental illness and the importance of mental health.  Any Canadian organization is eligible for this award.

3. The Dr. Barbara Everett Award for Young Researchers with Lived Experience

This award recognizes Young Researchers with Lived Experience who have demonstrated significant contributions in the field of mental health, emphasizing knowledge dissemination and innovative approaches. The Young Researcher nominee should have a track record of at least 2 years in the field, showcasing sustained and impactful contributions.
